“I will praise You, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will tell of all Your marvellous works.” Psalm 9:1 (NKJV)
1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV) states, “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” But do we really do that, especially when life becomes difficult, and the chips are down, as we sometimes like to say?
Human beings will always experience challenges, as these are part of the journey, but we must have an attitude of gratitude. We must thank God in every situation, the good, the bad, and the in-between or unsure.
In this month of November, in one particular country in North America, a day is set aside to ‘give thanks’. This day is popularly known as Thanksgiving Day. Family members travel distances to celebrate with each other. The occasion is grand. Sumptuous meals are prepared and served. Loved ones meet at one location. I would hope that expressing thanks to each other for whatever would be an essential aspect of the gathering, but most of all, I trust that God is given preeminence.
The true meaning of “Thanksgiving” should be about the relationship between man and God, the Creator of all things, and between fellow men. 2 Thessalonians 1:3 teaches us to always thank God for having each other, especially as our love for each other keeps increasing.
May I encourage you all to acknowledge God first and always give Him thanks.
